Between the two types of snake enclosures, GLASS snake enclosures are easier to maintain. They last longer than Wood Melamine snake enclosures. Glass enclosures are better suited for semi-aquatic species.

On the other hand, Wooden Melamine snake enclosures will deteriorate over time. Being made of timber, they require extra care, particularly in using water while cleaning. It is recommended that you use a small amount of silicone around all the wood joins to stop water from seeping into the gaps and swelling the timber.

WOODEN snake enclosures are much better at holding temperature as heat escapes through glass quicker than wood. Regarding price, enclosures made from either glass or melamine are about the same.

One thing you need to be aware of is ALL reptile enclosures need to have adequate ventilation. Adequate ventilation means that there will be no condensation build-up on the inside of the glass enclosure. Ventilation is critical as humid environments for most desert-dwelling snakes and lizards will cause respiratory infections.

For many years reptile keepers have been under the assumption that they do not require Ultra Violet Light. UV light regulates the production of Vitamin D3, which allows pythons/snakes to absorb and metabolise calcium properly.

Most keepers have kept their animals without UV for many years without any issue as they believe that the python will get enough calcium from the rats and mice they are feeding. Correct!

There is enough calcium in their food, but does their body absorb the calcium into their system well enough without the UV Light? It is where you, as a snake keeper, need to decide as there is so much conflicting information.

In summary, the UV light will have a benefit for your snake or python.
